I did something pretty drastic the other day...I got about 10 inches of hair chopped off! It feels so good! I am a sucker for a new beginning! <3 <3 <3
This week, I have a little treat for you!
This is my cover of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.”
I became a fan of Katy Perry after I watched her movie “Part of Me,” a couple year ago. I had just kind of watched it on a whim, and I ended up crying in the middle of it and being completely moved by her performance of this song. Then, recently, I got to see her in concert in OKC. (She puts on an incredible performance by the way. Even if you aren’t a fan of her music, you should try to go to one of her shows…they are spectacular! It is really incredible to get to watch a woman take over the world of pop music like she has!)
Today, I also want to answer the question “What do you consider when picking songs to cover?”
When I am looking at songs to cover, the very first question I ask myself is “Does this song make me feel something?” That is the most important question to me because I want every song I sing to move someone, I want it to make you feel something. After all, that is in my job description as an artist!
Then, I look at if the song is in my range, (and if it isn’t…if I can make it in my range). I have to look at if I can do something cool or different with this song, and then I start learning it. It is always a little bit of a scary experience for me. I am much more comfortable writing songs than I am learning other people's songs. So, this is an area I can grow in.
I would love your feedback, both positive and constructive.
