I have started work on my next project: a full twelve-song album. I'm really excited about this next stage in my life as a musician. It is both terrifying and exhilarating, but I am ready.
After I finished my first album, "Love is Alive," I had a really hard time getting back into writing. It took awhile before I finally wrote a song that I actually liked. Once I did though, everything else started flowing a little better. I have been spending the last few months, writing for this new album and thinking about things I want for it, things I would do differently, and things that I would do the same.
It is definitely a process, but it is one that I am absolutely in love with.
After I finished writing a few songs for this new album, the next step was getting demos made. I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to work with a wonderful guy in Muskogee who helped me record my first demos for this album.
These are the songs I recorded:
1. You and I
2. Letting Go
3. I'd Cry
4. Dancing in Your Car
5. Until you hurt me
6. Demons inside
7. Don't wanna say your name
I recoded these demos live, meaning that instead of recording vocals and guitar/piano separately, I recorded them both at the same time. It is a very different experience, but I think doing it this way helped to capture the way I hear the songs right now. Having demos that reflect the heart of the song makes thinking of production and the big picture of the entire album a lot easier.
Here are some of my favorite lyrics from these songs:
"I'm wearing yesterday's curls and today's blush" - You And I
"Let me break the fourth wall of this song to tell you I wrote this for you." - Don't wanna say your name
"There's hope in the Oklahoma sky because every single year spring passes by." - Dancing in your car

I have also been making my class schedule this week for next semester, and it has been both a little stressful and exciting. I am studying 'Audio Engineering' so that I can learn how to record/mix&master albums and do live sound. I have actually been enjoying it a lot. At times, I feel like I am in way over my head because I walked into this field knowing basically nothing about it....but I love it. I know this is where I am supposed to be right now and that is what keeps me going! And maybe in a few years, I will be self-producing and recording my own albums. Who knows?
All I know, is that I have to keep moving forward. The rest is out of my hands!
